About the Boston Sports Institute
The Boston Sport Institute, is a massive 130,000 sq. ft. multi use recreation facility that will feature two NHL regulation ice surfaces (one fully sled hockey compatible), indoor synthetic turf field, competition swimming pool, warm up pool, sports rehabilitation, and strength training. All of this will be conveniently located at 900 Worcester Street (Route 9). This is a public-private partnership between EDGE and the Town of Wellesley, MA, slated for opening in the spring of 2019.
The town brought the land to the table: EDGE responded to, and was awarded the RFP and negotiated a 50-year land lease — taking the control, construction and future operation out of the hands of the town. Once the center opens, preferred ice and pool times will be given to Wellesley High School, Wellesley Youth Hockey, Dana Hall, and the Wellesley Swim Association. The center will also offer recreational skating and pool times to the public. In addition, the facility will be available to rent to other area organizations and sports groups.
About the Edge Sports Group
EDGE Sports Group (ESG Associates Inc.) was formed in 2008 to react to the growing demand for public private partnerships that provide year round athletic venues. EDGE’s assists clients in navigating through public processes at the local, state and federal levels; work with private capital and conventional lenders to obtain financing; and establish the programming and operational framework required to sustain the model.
EDGE is a full-service company that offers the full gamut of strategic and operational services in: Assessment, Feasibility & Market Studies, Design, Permit & Construction Management, and Programming & Operations.
EDGE Sports Group’s goal is to create Sports Ecosystems that offer recreational opportunities to both youth and adults, from amateur to professional, through the development of sports programs and organized league play to serve the local community.
EDGE brings over twenty-five years of private and public recreational design experience in:
- Assessment, Feasibility & Market Studies
- Design, Permit & Construction Management
- Programming & Operations
in order to create these ecosystems that match public and private investment with broad-based support, forming partnerships that create multi-year collaborations ensuring sustainable recreational investments and operations.
Sports facilities are a needed asset — but they’re also a luxury many towns can’t afford, which is why partnering with EDGE makes so much sense. By privatizing these types of facilities and having EDGE work hand-in-hand with existing recreation programs, we’re able to provide not only a facility, but a partner.
